Spartan First is an indigenous owned, mainstream health services provider offering a wide range of health and well being services to industry, Government and community. We are a proudly owned and operated West Australian company and are your trusted and dependable health services provider offering a flexible and proactive approach to health care management. Our experienced and knowledgeable team provide an unrivalled commitment to the delivery of quality and excellence in health care.

Our goal is to improve the health, well being and socio economic position of our community through our innovative health care approach.

Our History

Spartan First was established in 2018 and has expended rapidly to its current (and continuously growing) state of 5 clinics and 50 employees. In 2020, throughout the period of heightening pandemic and economic instability, Spartan First continued to generate business and momentum.

Executive Team

Des Headland

CEO/Director

Des is a passionate business person that is invested in the advancement of this privately owned Indigenous business. Whilst being highly recognised for his AFL sporting history, Des had spent his subsequent years creating, developing and advocating for the Indigenous community. Des is Nyoongar-Yamatji and is an active, social family and community member, maintaining cultural and sporting commitments.

Michelle Strother

SFIM Manager

B.Sc(Physio), PGradDip OHS, TAE
Having spent the last 15 years in-field and managing the Injury Prevention Plus business unit of Spartan First, Michelle is the newest management team member. Although still performing her consulting role, Michelle brings multi-facetted management and technical expertise in musculoskeletal health, training, risk management, occupational health, safety and ergonomics.

Heath Prentice

Operations Manager

Commencing in Occupational Health within the Exercise Physiology and injury management sector, Heath became one of Spartan First’s founding team members. A diligent manager of our clinic operations, Heath oversees the output of our medical and pre-employment services.

Olivia Tassone

Practice and Administration Manager

Olivia is an emerging young business person and a wonderful example of Indigenous youth and leadership. As a founding team member of Spartan First, Olivia has led the administrative team throughout its ongoing growth. She embodies exceptional customer service and fosters personalised and fruitful client relationships.

Janelle Campbell-Cooke

Health and Wellbeing Manager

BPsych. Grad Dip Ed

Janelle has 20 years’ experience working as a Psychologist across government and non-government sectors, supporting individuals improve and maintain mental health and wellbeing. Since joining the Spartan First Team, Janelle has utilised her skills to support the socio emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal people through the development of bespoke training programs with Job Actives, Corporate clients, and direct services to individuals.
