ABOUT US

Executive Team

Des Headland

CEO/Director

Des is a passionate business person that is invested in the advancement of this privately owned Indigenous business. Whilst being highly recognised for his AFL sporting history, Des had spent his subsequent years creating, developing and advocating for the Indigenous community. Des is Nyoongar-Yamatji and is an active, social family and community member, maintaining cultural and sporting commitments.

Heath Prentice

Operations Manager

Commencing in Occupational Health within the Exercise Physiology and injury management sector, Heath became one of Spartan First’s founding team members. A diligent manager of our clinic operations, Heath oversees the output of our medical and pre-employment services.

Olivia Tassone

Admin & Client Relations Manager

Olivia is an emerging young business person and a wonderful example of Indigenous youth and leadership. As a founding team member of Spartan First, Olivia has led the administrative team throughout its ongoing growth and is passionate about providing an exceptional services to clients, ensuring their needs are met and exceeded.

Janelle Campbell-Cooke

Health and Wellbeing Manager

BPsych. Grad Dip Ed

Janelle has 20 years’ experience working as a Psychologist across government and non-government sectors, supporting individuals improve and maintain mental health and wellbeing. Since joining the Spartan First Team, Janelle has utilised her skills to support the socio emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal people through the development of bespoke training programs with Job Actives, Corporate clients, and direct services to individuals.

Steph Payne

Regional Operations and Business Development Manager

With over 10 years’ experience within the Occupational Health Sector in the Bunbury and South West Region, Steph brings an extensive range of knowledge and expertise to the team. Steph is passionate about building solid, longstanding relationships with the local clients and companies while also ensuring and maintaining clinical operational excellence in our Regional WA centres.

Anthony Walter

B.Sc (ExPhys), TAE

Having spent the last 18 years working within the Occupational Health and Injury Management Sector, Anthony is the newest Spartan First management team member. Anthony brings multi-facetted technical expertise in musculoskeletal health, occupational health, safety and risk management. Anthony is passionate about maintaining long standing relationships with employers to assist with decreasing injury rates, improving their injury related statistics and minimising the risk profile of the organisation.

Case Studies

We listened! Our clients desired an online booking system so they can autonomously bypass the phone booking systems for multiple candidate bookings. We have created this system in partnership with software developers and launched the system in June 2021. Olivia Tasson took lead of this process and she continued to review and adjust where possible.

Online Bookings System

The Spartan First Job Readiness programme aims to give a hand up to those seeking work. We leverage off our occupational health business to provide a mechanism for job seekers and/or jobactive participants to upskill in health and wellness and entry level job skills. Our mentors support job seekers maintain employment through onsite coaching and training. These activities are supported by professional staff who are objective, independent and invested in the wellness of our community. Our unique position in the industry allows us to provide a culturally appropriate and agile programme respecting the needs of individuals within the group.

“Six Seasons”Job Readiness (Partnering with APM)

In December 2020, the National Indigenous Australians Agency supported Spartan First in the creation of the first state Indigenous Suicide Prevention Crisis Line. This provided people the opportunity to seek phone based support from mental health professionals in their moment of need. Our staff excelled in providing genuine support and outreach services, connecting callers to local support networks ensuring their ongoing needs were met.

The Injury Prevention Plus team was able to support our demographic of worker to a high degree resolving difficulties in language and understanding, and also differing cultural norms. Workers often looked forward to the routine visits and if necessary, Injury Prevention Plus attended outside of scheduled visits to support our needs. The team were accessible by phone or email when required.

Our immediate benefits and results include:

Injury prevention of musculoskeletal injuries but also line of fire and pinch/crush injuries.

Direct results from this partnership included a 5 year LTI free period down from an historical average of 2 per annum. The level of trust developed between the workforce and injury prevention plus helped show the organisation was serious about safety, and the increased engagement also helped underpin other quality and productivity improvement programmes.
The greatest satisfaction of the programme was the knowledge that we had prevented individuals in our workforce from getting hurt and stopped the multiyear trend of LTI’s and MTI’s.
